Nick Alexander Stage: ROB MOIR

10th May 2019 0 By Wes Bowie

Across the four days of Lost Evenings 3 there are seven acts appearing each day of the festival and that’s BEFORE Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls headline.

Leading up to the festival the Solo Armada will be highlighting some of the supports and who they are, particularly those that are appearing on the Nick Alexander Stage. Some bands/artists you may already be familiar with but some might be a complete mystery.

Hopefully by the time we have published the last article you will not only have discovered new music but also have a clearer idea of who you definitely want to see on the Nick Alexander Stage at Lost Evenings 3.

The Solo Armada will be there throughout welcoming those that have travelled to the festival alone and who would like some company to laugh, dance and sing. However ANYONE is welcome to join us, it’s about having as good a time as possible!

In 2013, Moir released the critically acclaimed LP Places To Die, of which Rolling Stone wrote in their 4 star album review, “Moir isn’t conservative; there’s something urgent in his songs, that are never too sure of themselves, and whose longing hasn’t found a home yet. Moir sings his romantic sighing songs with punk rock folk in his heart and in addition proves a great sense for quiet singer/songwriter moment”.
2015 saw his second album Adventure Handbook, a burst of life and energy backed by his Toronto band The Great Lates. Once again, Rolling Stone commented on the full band release, “Moir’s compositions are now so confident they go straight to your heart”.

Moir has toured Europe with Grammy-nominated Neko Case and shared the stage with fellow alt-folk artists such as Frightened Rabbit, Frank Turner and The White Buffalo. With solo performances at international festivals BIGSOUND, Music Matters and Live at Heart, as well as multiple successful tours in Australia, Canada, Europe, UK and Japan, Moir has proven his ability to silence rowdy audiences with his intimate performances, quick humour, and captivating stage presence.

Perpetually on the lonesome road, Rob continues to expand his audience as he performs his songs across the world, making fans the old fashioned way – one dedicated believer at a time.

With the release of his third album SOLO RECORD (Northern Americas – Canada, Make My Day Records – EU, released November 16, 2018). The writing, which took place in Melbourne, Australia during some rare downtime from the road, sees the new material staying true to Moir’s brand of honest songwriting and clever turns of phrase in his lyrics.

SOLO RECORD is a stripped down, back-to-basics effort that would fit nicely in a record collection next to Bruce Springsteen, The Replacements and Wilco. It features songs like ‘Sometimes You Gotta Go’, where Moir reassures a younger version of himself that it’s okay to follow his passion and that against all odds, a version of living his dreams can come true. In ‘Love Is A House On Fire’, Moir sings of what it’s like to regret waiting too long to express feelings to a loved one.
